Basin Head Cleanup - 2009

Violent winter storms deposited a tremendous amount of debris on the east side of Basin Head Run. Parks P.E.I. requested assistance from the Souris and Area Wildlife Branch in cleaning up this area.

Souris Wildlife's Staff including their chainsaw operators worked nonstop for two days. Much of the large drift wood had to be cut up into smaller moveable pieces and wheel-barrowed to the wharf, across the bridge to the lower parking lot.

Dump trucks and loaders were then requested to move this debris from the lower parking lot to an Island Waste Management Corporation disposal site. Souris and Area Wildlife and Parks P.E.I. were very pleased to get this job done without disturbing nesting areas of piping plovers.
