Interview with Susan Saville

SavilleSusan Saville was born in Montague, Prince Edward Island in 1957. She was raised in Mount Hope and Fortune Bridge and was educated in the Fortune area. Following attendance at Souris Regional High School, Ms. Saville entered the work force. Susan was employed on the line as a fish-cutter, first with Babineau's then at Usen Fisheries until the disastrous fire in 1993. She then entered the Adult Stream Enhancement program under then coordinator Larry Avery. Following his resignation to go to other work, Ms. Saville worked as the program coordinator for 10-11 years. Later Susan returned to a fish precessing facility to work on clean-up.

A great supporter of the Souris & Area Branch of the P.E.I. Wildlife Federation and conservation activities, she put many hours in over and above her employment. Ms. Saville served as the Kings County representative on the board of the P.E.I. Wildlife Federation and maintained the Souris branch's tree nursery in her back yard.

In August 2009, she presented videos, photographs and newspaper clippings that were significant to her in her work. Her generous donation will be preserved, formatted and presented on souriswl.ca. She also consented to be interviewed by web master Waldron Leard on August 21, 2009. In the videos below she speaks of the past and present and her thoughts for the future regarding conservation and environment issues.

Ms. Saville passed away at her home in Fortune Bridge on February 17, 2010
