Family Fishing Day 2010

The Souris Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation has been hosting an annual Family Fishing Day for the past few years at the Rollo Bay Pond. The event is free and participants do not require an angling license. Our goal is to encourage outdoor recreation and an interest in wildlife.

On Sunday May 30, 2010 the Souris and Area Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation hosted a Family Fishing Day at the Rollo Bay Pond, a private fishing preserve owned by Paul and Faye Gallant.

Over a hundred people attended the event. People of all ages participated, from the very young members of the community to the elderly. They were able to fish free of charge on the pond which had been stocked with over 3000 trout in 2010.

There were many catches throughout the day, which was filled with moments of calming silence while parents and children waited for that 'first bite', mixed with squeals of delight as kids caught their first fish. The biggest catch of the day was caught by the David and Cheryl MacLaren family; the trout weighed in at a whopping 3.2lbs.

The day was a complete success; the sun was shining and many proud smiles could be seen on the faces of those new to sport fishing as well those who are avid fishers.
