Rollo Bay student’s art work included in national calendar

Rollo Bay
P.E.I. ENERGY MINISTER GEORGE WEBSTER
recently presented Jessie Woods, a student at
Rollo Bay Consolidated with an award for her
poster entry that was the provincial winner of the
"Energy and the Environment Calendar 2008".
The calendar will be distributed across Canada.

Jessie Woods, a Grade 8 student at Rollo Bay Consolidated School will have her art work in a calendar to promote energy saving ideas.

Jessie entered the Natural Resources Canada calendar contest as part of a classroom assignment last year and learned recently she was a national winner, along with one other student from each of the provinces and Territories in Canada.

"I was surprised," the 12 year old said, "but I was happy about it too."

Energy Minister George Webster recently presented Jessie with a mounted copy of her artwork and other prizes.

"I got a backpack and a watch," she said. "The school also got a copy of the picture I drew so that was nice too."

Jessie's artwork entitled "Don't pollute the Environment" shows two houses, one with solar panels and the other with electricity, a clothes line to dry clothing vs. a washer and dryer and a bicycle instead of a vehicle.

"Jessie’s drawing clearly shows how using energy more efficiently can help our environment," Mr Webster said. "The less energy we use, the less pollution we create and the cleaner our air is to breathe."

Jessie is the daughter of Cathy and Earl Woods and lives with her sister Mary, brother James and numerous cats and kittens and puppy in Souris West.

The 2008 "Using Less, Living Better" calendar will be distributed to households, schools.
