Souris & Area Wildlife Branc of the P.E.I. Wildlife Federation secretary Paul Gallant presents the Branch Conservationist of the Year award to member Waldron Leard, December 13, 2009 at the annual Wildlife Dinner. | The Souris & Area Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation has been a community service organization since 1954. We are dedicated to improving the environment within our management area as well as our province and our country. Our group has a rich history in stream enhancement and promotes awareness and knowledge on environmental issues. Our organization has been recognized provincially through the receipt of a “Prince Edward Island Environmental Award” in the year 2006. In order to achieve the recognition that the Souris Wildlife Branch has attained, it obviously needs a long list of dedicated volunteers of which you see many here working. Today we are going to recognize one of our volunteers who very much cares for our environment and especially the Eastern Kings Area. |
This volunteer promotes the positive aspects of our management area through photographs and then posts it on the Web so all the world can view them through our website plus his own. He advocates to youth by example in picking up any trash that he encounters. He is always a listener to those that know more than himself in various environmental issues. He takes pride in learning more about our planet so that he can do his "little bit" in leaving as little an "environmental footprint" as possible.
Today we honor Waldron Leard as our Branch's Sportsman Conservationist of 2009. This is an individual who promotes the hunting of wildlife with a camera. He is has taken our "Annual Wildlife Photo Contest" to a level that would make it one of the largest in quantity of participants and quality of photos in Eastern North America (2131 entries).
He is also our Branch's webmaster and now has developed a website for us www.souriswl.ca with over 150 pages of data and receives on a daily basis approximately 12,000 individual visits. He basically promotes to the world what a wonderful job that Souris Wildlife Branch is doing.
