Activities Tree Planting - 2009 The Souris & Area Branch of the PEI Wildlife Federation planted 500 native species of trees in late May of 2009. Some of the species planted were: Black Spruce, Eastern White Cedar, White Ash, White Birch, American Elm, Red Maple, American Mountain Ash, Red Oak, Eastern Hemlock, Eastern Larch, Yellow Birch, White Spruce, and White Pine. These trees were planted in riparian zones of streams in the Eastern Kings area that were lacking in cover. These trees were picked up at the J. Frank Gaudet Nursery as part of a provincial partnership between the PEI Department of Environment, Energy, and Forestry and the Souris & Area Wildlife Branch.
